Bethany G. Rogers is an award-winning writer, author, poet, tutor and creative collaborator.
Bethany’s stories, poetry and creative writing have been published internationally. In 2011, she was a finalist for the Manchester Fiction Prize for her short story ‘The Cuckoo’ and in 2024, she was shortlisted for the National Flash Fiction Day prize and won the Otago Regional Prize.
A professional member of the New Zealand Society of Authors, Bethany was selected as a mentee for 2021 development programme. Her first short story collection, Kaleidoscopes in the Dark (2022), was the result.
Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, she was first published when she was nine years old. She contributed to poetry magazines and, later, volunteered for book festivals like Durham Book Festival and Northern Lights Film Festival and became involved in poetry performance groups like Apples & Snakes.
Bethany completed a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in English Literature at Newcastle University, leaning into topics such as fairytales and children’s literature.
At the age of 21, she emigrated to New Zealand.
Since then, she has run creative writing workshops for adults and children, collaborated on events and festivals such as TEDxQueenstown. She was one of the founding trustees of the Queenstown Writers Festival and facilitated the Queenstown Creative Writing Group for nine years.
She loves the interplay between different artworks and has collaborated with artists, musicians, painters, film-makers and visual artists.
When she’s not writing, Bethany enjoys adventure sports and the arts. She is an ultramarathon runner, a wild swimmer, a cellist and an aerialist. In 2025, she was proud to represent New Zealand at the World Ice Swimming Championships.
